-----This remarkable new recording features the world premiere of Beethoven's Macbeth Overture, Biamonti 454 in a reconstruction by the noted Dutch musicologist and composer A. Willem Holsbergen. The reconstruction was painstakingly done using Beethoven's surviving sketches and notes and faithfully follows his intentions. The Overture had its world premiere performance at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC by the National Symphony Orchestra in 2001. This recording was made under the able direction of Roberto Diem Tigani and the Sassari Symphony Orchestra for the Italian premiere. The Rondo for Piano and Orchestra in B-flat major, WoO 6 from a new critical edition and the Piano Concerto in D major, Op. 61a are brilliantly performed by Maurizio Paciariello at the piano and and the Sassari Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Diem Tigani. The new critical edition used for the Rondo gives much needed historical accuracy to the sparkling performance.

"...The score is a great gift to the Beethoven enthusiast: music that both recounts the Shakespearian tragedy and demonstrates great perception of its own... It is full of solid sound, well thought-out and clear phraseology, refined modifications of the rhythm that embellish the slow movements. A must for the CD collection of any Beethoven lover." - Musica magazine Five-Star Award

-----Unlike most of Beethoven's unfinished fragments, the Piano Concerto in E-flat major, WoO 4, composed around 1784-88, has come down to us complete. In the surviving manuscript, the orchestral part is reduced to a piano accompaniment for the solo piano part. The version used for this recording is a new critical one done by Roberto Diem Tigani, who conducts the Sassari Symphony Orchestra with Maurizio Paciariello at the piano. This analytical research therefore suggest that the orchestra comprises a flute, two oboes two bassoons two horns and strings - the same ensamble as Beethoven himself used in many other of his early works. The Romance Cantabile in E minor, Hess 13 was written in the early 1780s. It may be all that remains of a "Triple Concerto" that could have been written for the Westerholt family, who were friendly with the young composer. Beethoven produced two Romances for Violin and Orchestra Op. 40 and Op. 50. These short, captivating, and moving melodies are truly romantic romances. This lovely set of 12 Contradanses, WoO 14 contain some of Beethoven's best melodies; several originated from the Prometheus Ballet and one was latter used in the Third Symphony.

"... we can bear witness to how this edition restores Beethoven in all his brilliance, in a radiance that is almost Mozartian.." This is a high-flying performance, a precious record that is full of surprises. Giorgio De Martino, Musica
